Eden 2008
Type C photo collage, 63.4 x 49.7 cm
Ipswich Art Gallery Collection, 2011

This photo collage Eden by David Rosetzky presents a series of layered portrait images with sections strategically cut out to reveal the different photographic layers underneath. The resulting portraits appear to negate the possibility of a single fixed identity by interspersing sections extracted from the photographic images of several people. Rosetzky’s work draws upon fashion magazine photography and popular screen culture. The slickness of his portraits imitates the idealized images found in advertising – commenting on consumerism in contemporary culture and its role in forming identity.
