The Ipswich Art Gallery is located in d’Arcy Doyle Place, a pedestrian mall section of Nicholas Street between Brisbane and Limestone Streets in the Ipswich CBD.

The Gallery is open 7 days a week from 10 am to 5 pm. 

Admission is free unless stated otherwise. Major exhibitions may attract an entry fee and this information will be clearly stated within the program details.

The Gallery happily accepts Companion Cards upon purchase of tickets when required.

The Gallery may close periodically to install major exhibitions.

The wellbeing of our visitors and staff is our top priority.

For everyone’s health and safety, we’re asking you to:

  • Comply with physical distancing and keep at least 1.5 metres distance from others at all times
  • Use hand sanitiser provided
  • Avoid bringing large bags
  • Follow instructions from staff
  • Do not visit the Gallery if you are feeling unwell.

What we’re doing for you:

  • Undertaking additional and regular cleaning of the Gallery including high-traffic areas and high-touch items
  • Providing sanitiser stations throughout the Gallery
  • Continuing to monitor the Queensland Government's health guidelines and providing updates when required.

The Ipswich Art Gallery (‘the Gallery’) is committed to providing a safe and enjoyable environment for all visitors whilst ensuring the protection of its artworks on display. By entering the Gallery, visitors agree to be bound by the following Conditions of Entry.

  • Backpacks, large bags, umbrellas and any other item (as directed by Ipswich Art Gallery Staff) must be checked in to the cloakroom upon entry to the Gallery.
  • General photography of the Gallery is permitted however, the use of tripods, selfie sticks, flash or lighting equipment is not permitted.
  • Adults must, at all times, supervise children for whom you are responsible and ensure that they don’t breach any of our Conditions of Public Entry.
  • Food and drinks aren’t permitted in the Gallery.
  • Guide Dogs and other registered assistance dogs are permitted in the Gallery and to all events.

From Brisbane:

  • Take the Ipswich Central exit from the Ipswich Motorway.
  • Follow Brisbane Road past Queens Park. It becomes Limestone Street as you enter the Ipswich CBD.
  • As you pass through three sets of traffic lights, you will see on the left the large white building of the Ipswich Civic Centre.
  • Directly opposite on the left is the pedestrian-only zone of d’Arcy Doyle Place.
  • The entry to the Ipswich Art Gallery is located halfway along d’Arcy Doyle Place.


Please note: Brisbane and Limestone Streets are open to one way traffic only.

The Gallery does not have its own parking, however there is metered on-street parking on Limestone Street, Nicholas Street and Brisbane Street. Parking is usually charged between 8am-5pm on weekdays. Street parking is free on the weekends; please check signs for details.

Ipswich CBD Parking (beneath Tulmur Place in the Nicholas Street Precinct) offers free parking for up to 3 hours, with charges applying for more than 3 hours. On weekends parking is free. The car park entry is located on Bremer Street which runs parallel to the Bremer River.

To reach the Gallery from the Ipswich CBD car park:

  • Take the lift up to the GROUND level into Tulmur Place / Nicholas Street Precinct and walk south up to the traffic lights crossing Brisbane St.
  • Cross Brisbane Street and walk into d’Arcy Doyle Place.
  • The entry to the Ipswich Art Gallery is located halfway along d’Arcy Doyle Place.

Coaches must drop off passengers in loading zones near the Gallery, and then park elsewhere for the duration of the visit. Passengers can then be collected from these loading zones once a pick up time has been confirmed.

The nearest drop off zones to the Gallery are on Limestone Street opposite d’Arcy Doyle Place, and on Nicholas Street opposite the Civic Centre.

Parking is available next to Timothy Molony Park on Ellenborough Street.

The Gallery is a short walk from the Ipswich Railway Station as well as bus stops. If travelling by train, alight at Ipswich Station. The Gallery is a 4-minute walk from the station. Walk left up Bell Street, right onto Brisbane Street and left onto d’Arcy Doyle Place. Visit TRANSlink for service and timetable information.

All public areas of the Gallery are wheelchair and pram accessible.

There is lift access to upper and lower levels of the Gallery. Prams and strollers are permitted inside the Gallery spaces, however cloaking is available and recommended during busy periods.

Toilets with wheelchair access and infant change tables are available on the lower level.
